Daphne says...
I began my career with a background in dance, creative writing, yoga and the dramatic/performing arts. I have been a graduate of Tamalpa Institute and a Halprin Practitioner since 2000, and since then, the Life-Art Process has been a strong foundation for my continued personal healing/transformation, as well as early grounds for my professional expertise. It has been my great honor to teach this work both internationally, and also nationally - in New York, Texas, California. Currently, I serve as an Associate Tamalpa teacher in the Los Angeles area, where I am also authorized to teach the cutting edge work of Emilie Conrad: Continuum Movement.
Biography
Daphne Georghiou is a Registered Somatic Movement Therapist with ISMETA (International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association), an authorized Continuum Movement Teacher, by Continuum founder and somatic movement pioneer, Emilie Conrad. She is a certified Halprin Life-Art Process practitioner from Tamalpa Institute - the first in-studio training center for body-based Expressive Arts Therapy, and art-based Somatic Movement Therapy. Daphne's work draws upon dance pioneer, Anna Halprin's, Movement Ritual and dance as a healing art. She has worked closely with Daria Halprin, cofounder and director of Tamalpa Institute. As a somatics practitioner, she also draws from her training as a Certified Acupressure Massage Therapist and an energetic healer.
Daphne holds a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute - a Jungian and Depth psychology based school. Daphne aims to build and nurture healing environments, which adhere to the creative expression of the individual in so far as they cultivate a climate for self-understanding, self-knowledge, self-acceptance, somatic-awareness and a harmonious coexistence with others. Daphne believes that the organism of the body is our greatest tool for gaining and maintaining health and overall wellbeing. All of our thoughts, feelings, traumas, and the stories of our lives are housed in the physical body itself - organs, bones, flesh and all. Without learning how to listen to the body and follow its natural flow for healing and regeneration, the body can suffer from neurosis, physical illness and even cellular dysfunction.
